The Earliest Video Games

Post by JackRabbit on Fri Mar 05, 2010 12:57 pm

A little "video game history" for you:

As with many inventions, the history of video games is somewhat disputed. Video games as we know them today can be traced back to the early 1950s. Ralph Baer, who some credit as the father of video games, was a television engineer who developed a concept for interactive television games in 1951. It would be a few years, however, before his visions were realized. In 1958 William Higginbotham developed the first interactive computer game called "Tennis for Two" ...

The first video game I ever used was Atari. Later, they had one called Coleco.. I believe.

The first one we had was Pong. That's all it was, only one game. You could make the paddles bigger or smaller, make the ball move fast or slow, and the angle the ball would bounce at greater or lesser. That was pretty much it as far as options. Bip...bip...bip...

Pong! I remember that one! Wasn't it on the Atari system? I still have one of those game consoles ... somewhere, in the deep, dark reaches of my bedroom closet! Probably considered "an antique" now! haha!

Yes, I believe they had Pong on Atari, but our first game was a player that ONLY had Pong, there were no game cartridges for it or other games available on it.

I wonder if some day... others will look at sites like this and consider the internet a game.
Nintendo is now thought of as old. Even the hand held Game boy is old. lol First ones only in black and white.

I thought the internet WAS a game! Does this mean I'm not really winning the internets? Sad

I'm not sure how you'd figure who wins or loses. lol
In many ways, it IS a game.
It could also be lessons learned... like trying to find truth and facts hidden among all the other things posted.
