Post by Breezey Breezey on Tue Aug 30, 2011 4:08 pm

Have you ever forgotten a word you just knew would fit what you were trying to say?
What's the word for that?

Years ago i was out drinking with a friend. When he dropped me off i said " This has been a most oxtorious ocassion". Then the next day neither of us could remember the word. Then a few years latter i ran into him and the word popped into my mind and i said it to him at once & he just grinned and said that's it!! Don't know if there is a word like that for sure.

There is an old Irish word / phrase that I always found to be rather funny (and I'm NOT directing this to anyone here giggle) ...

Has anyone ever told you to ... "Kwitchyerbellyakin"

Sneaks,
Good for you! I would hate for you to loose your "word" again. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

What about the words that are spelled the same but mean
different things and are often pronounced differently -
depending on the context?
Arrrgh!

How about this word: wot ... No, not "what" ... but the old English word: "wot" ... an interesting word:

Wot: First and third person singular present tense of wit. -- pronoun and adjective --

1: Non-standard written form of 'what'. (1829 —) .
H. Carmichael He's going to have a tough job convincing the police he wasn't the one wot done it (1972).
2: wot no—? orig a World War II catchphrase protesting against shortages, written as the caption accompanying a drawing of the imaginary character Mr. Chad; later also in extended humorous use. (1945 —) .
K. Conlon Joanna sent a postcard which said, 'Wot no tulle and confetti?' (1979).

“Wot” is yet another old English word appearing 10 times in the KJV Bible. It simply means “I don’t know” or “I can’t tell”. In his letter to the Philippian believers
the Apostle Paul tells them “But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not” (Php 1:22).[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
