Yes I can. I canoed before I was ever in a Kayak. When I lived in Ca. we were 10 minutes from the Rusian River and in summer, we would go way up river and canoe down, then we got picked up and went back up again. Boy Scouts my friend, thats where I learned to canoe, I love it.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

No, Dutch Bill Creek was my back yard, but a mile and a half from me was the river. Too many floods to live on that river because they stopped dredging it as it was filling up with gravel and silt from all the logging that was done there. In spots, you can walk across the river almost as its so filled in, so when you get a ton of rain, it's flood time. We lived up high and dry from all that.

That's an interesting name for a creek. Was it named after somebody named Bill who was dutch?

You got it my friend, they calld him Dutch Bill. I forgot now the story behind him and why they named the creek after him, but there was a real Dutch Bill.Same as the Russian River there was a lot of Russians that settled at one time in that area, and my grandparents were from Russia so that attracted me to there, plus it's full of redwoods, and very beautiful in spring and summer. I miss it.

Well, it looks like you are are correct, my friend!

""Dutch Bill" Howard (born 1823) was a Danish seaman who jumped ship at San Francisco Bay in 1849 and started a new life as a homesteader near the source of this creek. In the 1870s, the North Pacific Coast Railroad was built through the valley. In return for donating right-of-way to the railroad, Howard received a lifetime railway pass and got a station named after him."
