For most of us, there will be very little if any changes. If you are already covered, nothing will change. If you aren't covered, there will be more options for low cost coverage available. Insurance companies will no longer be able to refuse coverage or charge exorbitant rates for preexisting conditions.

Please don't fall for the Republican crap about death panels or any of their other scare tactics. There is so much misinformation and downright lies about this plan, and I can assure you that most of it is due to Insurance companies, drug companies, for profit hospitals and physicians standing to lose a lot of money.

If this plan was so terrible, why would Mitt Romney have implemented it in Massachusetts as governor?

Hello Tater smile2
I'm glad you took time to answer this and I know you and I can discuss it without hating each other. (((HUG)))

What I have found, with my own digging, is that health insurance IS mandatory. If you don't buy, you are taxed.
I find that wrong. I know a few people who don't believe in health insurance and pay all bills with cash. They can afford to do this.
I also found that each state is allowed to extend medicaid.. or not.. which means many low income people could still be left with no health insurance.
What I didn't like... a lot... was the fact that "rules" will follow later.
It's (I believe) 955 pages of "stuff" that I don't think all who voted even really understand.
I don't know if I honestly believe this is being done to give people better health.
Tater, I don't think I like the fact that government is able to force all people to buy anything.
Do you remember, or even heard about how tax people would come to people's homes and tax them according to how nice their furniture was?
In ways... government DOES own us...
This health care passed by one thing... in order to be constitutionally legal... it had to be a tax. I looked that one up myself. Found many places that all agreed on that.

I DO have to ask this since it's been asked even before this came to be a law... what good is coverage without decent care and doctors? Too many are already left to fall through the cracks on state coverage.

I'll be back.

Breezey, you should be careful to research who is saying what about healthcare. My boss is the only person in our company who can afford healthcare. She has two homes, one a rental at the shore, 2 Corvettes, a Jeep Grand Cherokee AND a Lincoln Towncar. She doesn't give us any benefits at all. None. She resents that she has to pay us at all, and on a slow day we are lucky to make $3 or $4 an hour. And yet she has nothing to fear from the new health care law. It won't affect her in the slightest, except if/when one of gets sick and can't work.

Meanwhile, governors like yours and mine are cutting taxes for the rich, and services for the poor and middle class. "Obamacare" is going to help the poor and middle class with subsidies to get health insurance that they can't currently afford. People who have coverage now will not be affected in any way, except that their children will have coverage until they are 26, and insurance companies won't be able to exclude coverage or charge exorbitant rates for people with preexisting conditions. The law does not change coverage for people who are already insured.

Hey Tater, I am seeing and hearing things from all sides. Obama said it wouldn't be a tax, but in order to pass it... that had to go under a tax. That is found on many news places. Plus... it's been made clear that anyone who doesn't follow, will be taxed.
The clause, exemption... whatever they want to call it... states that each state can decide for themselves if they care to expand medicaid or not. If even three or four states choose not to... that is already a problem for low income people.

Your boss is not alone. There are many more.
As for workers, why do you think so many places offer benefits, but keep their worker's hours below the required amount to get them?

Have you even looked at this?

Breezey, it's better than we have now, and will cost less unless you are rich, or an employer like Walmart.

Tater... does this mean tobacco smokers and chewers?

And why only tobacco and not alcohol?

Still reading...

Nothing new doesn't make it right. Do you know how many alcoholics take up emergency rooms, medical attention and more? Why only tobacco?

I think... it's better on paper... there are many already on state plans and they don't get all they need. One thing many have learned is this... having coverage is not the same as getting the help needed.

Any clue if dental is included and if all dentists will actually accept the people? And I dare anyone to say dental is not a health issue like any other.

It's not perfect Breezey, but it's an IMPROVEMENT.
Unlike what Conservatives would have you believe.

Tater... an improvement, maybe... for some... but I see problems coming. There is already two ways people could be left uncovered.. tobacco and states that don't expand medicaid. Is that really so different from what is out there already?
And the bottom line, which everybody seems to go around... coverage doesn't guarantee actual help. It only guarantees insurance companies make a killing.

I just don't believe everyone is going to be happily better off and that taxing people for not buying is constitutional... no matter how they word it. I see this as another right slowly being taken away.

This law was written so that insurance companies DON'T make such a killing, and THAT is why so many republicans are up in arms; because they make a lot of money from insurance, and they stand to make a little less profit off of it.

Okay Tater... you KNOW me! I am stubborn! lol
I still believe insurance companies will be making a lot more since a LAW says everyone has to have it.

I'm going to keep digging and waiting to see what changes and what doesn't.

Please, Breezey, take a look at your own governor, who has already taken rights away from the citizens of your own state.

Here's the thing: Republicans only support the rights of the wealthy, so if you aren't wealthy, they aren't helping you! If you don't understand that, I don't know how else to explain that.

Tater... I try not to look at the governors or others in high places. I don't believe many give two cents about the "normal" people. We're all like chess pieces to be moved around the board. Those who have the most just love to keep it and take where there is less... all in the guise of helping. Those high up live off the rest and yet they have the nerve to take away from those who try to get ahead.
Wouldn't YOU like a job like the president? He gets paid VERY well and gets free rent to boot. Others under him get benefits many of us will never see.
I only understand the government stinks.

I think I need some sleep. (((HUG)))

The problem is, you NEED to look at the governor and what he is doing, as he is the person who is calling the shots, more than anybody else.

Good night, Breezey. (((HUGS)))

Morning Tater. smile2 (((HUGS))) back to you! love shower

The problem is... looking at the governor, I don't know if I think he did such a great thing either. Hearing two sides and understanding both sides... still, there always seems to be those who are above and are exempt on everything.
