Possessions.

How much do you think you really need? Do you ever think your possessions take up space in your mind as well as your home? thinking

I don't need nearly as much as is here. Many times, our possessions really do own us... we look for homes with the right amount of space for our things, etc...
Sometimes, I wake up thinking about what needs to be done with some of the things here... a car that refuses to start, etc...
Or that record player with the loud hum.....

I don't need most things here....

I dont have any posessions, I just borrow things. It'll all have to go back in the end but while I have it I'll try to take good care of it. How can you own the world?

As far as my mind goes, there is so much in there I frequently have difficulty finding what I want. The right word, where I put that object that I cant possibly do whithout that Ive done without for years, what that formula was for Planck time, or how to prove Pythagoras theorem! AND HOW TO SPELL!

Sill, easy come easy go.

There is very little that I really need; in fact, need is relative, to an extent, after allowing for basics like, food, shelter and clothes. And even as for clothes, I was never one to need name brands, or more than one pair of shoes at a time.

After giving this some more thought... society also tells us what we need.
Examples... you need a nice looking lawn, which usually means having a lawn mower.. at the very least.
You need electricity... which means having it or being told you can't live without it. ( I never gave that much thought until people started saying they were told they have to connect electricity)
So...maybe needs are just what everyone thinks they have to have? (Beyond the food, water and air part)

I am wondering... why there is a law about how big a house has to be, that it can't be smaller.  The bigger it is, the more stuff to fill it... and is it right to make a size required if one feels a need for smaller is better?

There is no law about how big a house has to be. There may be restrictive covenants in certain developments, but those covenants are not laws. They are meant to keep residences in a neighborhood uniform, to a certain degree, but they are also highly subject to local laws as well as equal opportunity laws.

Around us covenants are widely ignored mainly due to a lack of respect. There are no penalties without resort to law, and no one wants to incur the expense. Folks might moan but thats about as far as it goes. There is a lot of rented property in UK now and tenants arent likely to be aware of any covenants even if their landlords are.

This is what I am talking about....

Recently, as memory serves me, a person was told a house was too small and not allowed. Trying to find that again.

A home is a possession... and it's so "American" to be told you can't stay small and have less... to be pushed to have bigger....People don't really NEED all that space, they are just led to believe they do.
What is a bedroom for? At one time, it held a bed and maybe a dresser. Now.. it holds a lot of possessions... television, computer or whatever else a person wants to keep in it. It's no longer just a sleeping space.

I would site a hotel bedroom as a basic definition of what is required. Anything additional is up to the individual and I wouldnt impose any restriction without expecting a robust reaction.
