So, health care penalties are now in the taxes?!

Post by Breezey Breezey on Wed Feb 25, 2015 10:29 am

Okay... so now it is mandatory that every last poor soul needs to buy or get free health care or pay a penalty at tax time...
I believe I have that right...
So... a poor person trying to make ends meet can't get a place to live because the job isn't paying enough... but HAS to have health insurance or taxes basically steal money from them as a spanking for being naughty!!!
What do they do with the $95 they are taking from each person this year alone?
I am told it will be even more costly next year and the year after that....

Breezey, that poor person would be eligible for free health insurance under the new health care law. All they have to do is apply.

I'm not sure I understand the problem about free health care. Why would anybody be upset about having the option to have free health care?

I am upset at the fact that people who don't want health care and pay their own health care bills  are being forced to take health insurance and everyone else now has to take a government run plan. It's not free.. they get something in return.

You don't have to take a government run plan. We've discussed this before. There aren't any government run plans. All health care plans in the U.S. are privately owned and run. If you earn less than a certain amount, you can get assistance from the government to pay for it. How is that a bad thing?

Tater... nobody here in this state has been offered a way to help pay for health insurance. Everyone is told to sign up for free through the state.

I have to wonder why people would have to be forced to take something that is supposed to be a great thing... you ever wonder about that?
And I still want to know how taking people's money from taxes is justified. I see it as robbing people.
Insurance is many times a big rip off with big deductibles that people have to pay out of pocket before insurance will start paying.

1. The Level of Coverage You Choose

Obamacare insurance plans offer four levels of coverage, commonly called "metal levels":
Platinum -- covers approximately 90% of health care costs
Gold -- covers approximately 80% of health care costs
Silver -- covers approximately 70% of health care costs
Bronze –- covers approximately 60% of health care costs

Bronze plans carry the lowest monthly premiums, but you will pay the highest out-of-pocket costs for health care services. Platinum premiums are highest, but additional expenses will be lower than with other plans.
All four categories offer the same essential benefits, including hospitalizations, prescription drugs, maternity care, and more. The categories don’t affect the amount or quality of care you will receive.
Catastrophic plans. In addition to the categories above, if you are under the age of 30, you can purchase a “catastrophic” insurance plan at a lower cost than a bronze plan. These plans don’t qualify for the premium discounts discussed below. Under a catastrophic plan, you will probably have to pay all of your medical costs up to a certain amount, perhaps several thousand dollars. After that, the costs of essential health care benefits are paid by insurance.

2. Whether You Qualify for a Subsidy

Depending on your income and the size of your family, you may be able to reduce the costs of Obamacare insurance in one of the following ways:
Lower monthly premiums. You can lower the cost of your monthly premiums if you qualify for a tax credit. The credits can be applied directly to your monthly premiums, so you save money right away.
Reduce out-of-pocket costs. If you meet the eligibility requirements, the total amount of your annual out-of-pocket costs -- such as deductibles and copays -- will be reduced.
Obtain coverage under Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Low-income individuals and families may qualify for free or low-cost health care coverage through one of these programs, instead of Obamacare. Many states will be expanding Medicaid eligibility in 2014, so your chances of qualifying may increase.

And... your age and where you live will make a difference on price.
I'm back to.... it's not volunteering, if you're forced to do it.
I have a feeling this is just the beginning of what's to come.

Do you think it's a loss of the freedom to choose? It not only targets poor people, it targets all the every day people... forcing even those who pay all
their own bills.... It's forcing people to pay for services offered.
It's not about health care or it would all be free...not a forced payment.

Breezey, if you find information referencing "Obamacare", it is most likely not a valid unbiased, objective source, since Obamacare is a derogatory term used by opponents of the Affordable Health Care Act. Mostly republicans, and your governor in particular. Why? Good question. It mostly seems to have to do with the for profit Health insurance industry standing to lose a LOT of money.

Tater, they basically steal tax money from those who don't rush to buy what is being forced on them. They take away a person's right to choose and they are forcing people to all do it their way or no way.
Has anyone noticed that once they force all to have insurance of some sort... there is no question about whether people are actually getting the health help they need?
I think if the government is going to force something on everyone... they should stand behind it and give it away. When forced to BUY something, it feels like money is a purpose or reason....

As for our costs as a country and cost beyond health insurance, the Affordable Care Act does address the growing cost of health care, but it’s main focus is on reforming and expanding health insurance. Unless we as a nation address the root causes of health care costs a meaningful way the costs and taxes associated with healthcare will continue to put a burden on Americans, regardless of the law. Check out our health care facts to understand more about why we need to reform not only health insurance, but health care spending.

Does ObamaCare Require Me to Purchase Health Insurance?

You must obtain and maintain minimum essential coverage throughout the year, get an exemption, or face a tax penalty for each month you go without coverage.  In the individual and family market major medical coverage that counts as minimum essential coverage can only be purchased during open enrollment.  Open enrollment for 2015 is Nov 15, 2014 through Feb 15, 2015.

A tax penalty... which doesn't go towards paying for that person's health insurance or even a doctor bill... it is just taken.
Nothing really talks about people having better doctor care...  including vision and dental or any other needs not the run of the mill...
It's all about coverage and money.

Like I said before, if your source refers to the Affordable Care Act as "Obamacare", it is NOT an objective source, but undoubtedly from a conservative source which is against reasonably priced healthcare. We really need to ask why they would be against that, unless they stand to lose a lot of money.

Tater... you're missing the point of it being forced, money taken for not having... and people losing another right to choose.
And what is "reasonable"?
Wouldn't you love to be forced to pay for insurance every month for a family and then be told you can't even use it until you pay a deductible of $3,000 yearly... first? Yes, that has happened to one family.

And yes... I feel it's about the money..not people being healthy.

I give up. Yes, I get your point about it being forced, even if I don't totally agree with it, but you seem to be totally missing or ignoring every point I've tried to make.

Re: So, health care penalties are now in the taxes?!

Post by Breezey Breezey on Tue Mar 03, 2015 8:06 am

Okay.. I'll start from what I find close to the beginning. There are (from what I can tell) government health care plans... coverage... for those who are too low income to pay for their own.
"Obamacare" seems to be what many are calling it, no matter their political stands.
Whatever name you give something, doesn't really change what it is. Affordable Care Act or Obamacare... penalty or fine... it's all the same. People are being forced to buy something and money is just "taken" if people don't do what is dictated. Now, people should be happy to have health care... depends on what you get. For the person who still has to pay $3000 deductible, it's not a great thing. For the person who pays his/her own medical bills and doesn't believe in helping insurances profit.. it's not a great thing.
And since the actual health care isn't what seems to be an issue, just the insurance, it doesn't mean much of anything to those who still fight to get what they need.
I'm not ignoring or missing anything... I just don't see what right anyone has to force others to buy something or just rob them of money for not buying it... insurance is not the actual health help... it's just another means for people to get money from others every damn month and many times.. insurances try to find ways to not pay when needed. Then, add that deductible...

The last time I saw my doctor, he said he didn't even know I was his patient.  laughing ass off
So... his nurse tells me he may not be able to help me much because he doesn't have a lot of time.
And... he tells me there is nothing wrong!
I didn't go back.
