What is going on with Walmart's closing?

Post by Breezey Breezey on Thu Apr 16, 2015 1:29 pm

Five Walmart stores have closed and all are claiming the same reason... plumbing issues that will take at least six months?

This is the first I heard of it, but the idea that it may be part of some government scheme/FEMA camps/etc seems really far fetched. Consider that in any given community, there are generally several vacant big box stores that could be used very cheaply without all the inconvenience of shutting down a profitable store and laying off hundreds of workers, paying them 60 days worth of wages, and sacrificing all of the millions worth of merchandise.

Union busting may be more likely, but even that seems quite far fetched.

By the way Breezey, the saboteur website from the last link you posted appears to be highly racist.

Have you visited the website?

Here's a typical comment from one of the articles:

"segregation of the races is desirable to me as a race realist. Even more desirable is separation of the races. I look forward to the ultimate creation of a White homeland."

This is not from a commenter, this is by one of their main writers.

Thanks Breezey. I know you don't stand for that sort of thing, so I was surprised to find stuff like that on that website.

Here's an article that suggests that labor problems may be the real reason behind the Walmart closings:

You're welcome.. and thank you for letting me know. I haven't been on computer enough to really dig into a site... just posted what went with the topic.

I will read your article.

Okay, I read the article and it seems Walmart is just like any other business who cares about their dollars...
The one woman is making over $14 an hour and wanted more... she claims she needs to take care of her parents... why then jeopardize your job like that?
I just have to wonder about people... especially when so many know how businesses are... many leave overseas.

Walmart isn't a first. I remember when another business closed... didn't bother to tell their workers at all. People showed up to work and saw a sign on the door saying it was closed for good.

I try to avoid Walmart as much as possible. There is nothing I like about that place, especially the way they treat their employees.

Okay... been thinking and talking... and what still doesn't make much sense is HOW it all happened... five stores close at the same time and the same day...all only give a few hours notice
that their doors will be closed and locked.... Pretty fast and last minute......

I still think the most likely scenario is union busting. If voting on whether to choose a union was imminent at these stores, it would make sense to close them all down quickly, as far as Walmart is concerned. If they closed them down one at a time, word would have gotten out, and a union vote could have been moved up at the other locations.. Once a majority of store employees voted in favor of a union, it would be much more difficult for the company to do anything about it.

However, if they are no longer employees, they can't vote for a union to represent them.

Okay... that makes sense... and Walmart isn't going to tell anyone that either.

What's really sad is the idea that a petition to help workers make more than $8 a DAY is here
and yet...some at Walmart aren't happy with $14 an HOUR. Maybe Walmart did close over
this... but when people strike, it's expected it won't be good... to maybe make sure you are okay
with losing a job over it.
A paper mill in the area once did the same.. dumped all the strikers and hired people willing to cross the picket line.

Not many people outside of management make anything close to $14 an hour at Walmart. The way they treat their employees is also a major issue. One example is the way they routinely schedule people to work until 11 or 12 at night, and then have them back in at 6 or 7 the next morning. I can understand asking somebody if they can help out in a pinch, but that's not the case; I'm talking about regularly scheduled hours and it happens all the time. If anybody balks, they are likely to get their hours drastically cut.

Now, THAT I KNOW is right! I know someone who didn't get out of Walmart's doors until midnight and was supposed to be back at five A.M.!
