Please send over snow if you have some to spare. We are sweltering. It has cooled down a bit to 40 degrees celcius, down from 44. No gardening today. ): garden

Sorry Lorry, but not only have we not had any snow yet, we have had record warm weather here, and the city of Philadelphia has not even had a single low at or below freezing yet, which is also a record.
In fact, on Christmas day, the high is expected to be about 68°F (20°C). (The normal high here is about 42°F, or about 5°C)

Wow Tater.. 15 above your normal temp due on Christmas day.. Tonight we are breaking records here for the hottest December night ever recorded, with the temp still sitting at 29 degrees celcius at nearly 11pm and not expected to go down right through the night.
Thanks Breezey. I am about to go outside and turn on the sprinkler to cool down.

They are now predicting a high of 74°F (23°C) for Christmas Eve here in Philly, and a low of 60° (16°).
It's not even usually that warm here on Easter!

We might have gotten that much rain or more today. Tonight's low is 68°F/20°C, and tomorrow's high has been updated to 76°F, or about 24°C. A new record - Yay! The good news for travelers is, no snow in sight; the bad news; flash flooding is possible.

Merry Christmas to you all. It is one hour away from Christmas day here. The ham is basting in the oven, the trifles are done and the vegies are all ready to be roasted tomorrow. I am off to bed. Enjoy your day everyone. Yafooey group smiley Yafooey group smiley Yafooey group smiley

No worries; if there was flooding, the last thing I would have to worry about would be my house, or even my street. It would merely be an inconvenience getting around the low lying areas.

Merry Christmas Lorry!

To sum it up; This December was Philly's warmest on record, by a whopping 14 Degrees!
Most of the time, monthly records are set by a few degrees at best, but more typically, by a fraction of a degree. It's not just Philly either; this record was typical of the temps all over the east coast of the US.

From what you tell me, Lorry, as well as from what I have read, I suspect that the same sort of records have been set in Oz.

Sorry Breezey, I didn't mean to post anything too specific, but I know what you mean.

To answer your question, I think when kids are old enough to question the existence of Santa Clause, they are old enough to know the truth. I think a lot of kids pretend to believe long after they suspect the truth, because they are afraid if they let on, maybe the presents might stop showing up under the tree.

The fire situation has eased slightly with the better weather.. only 25 or so degrees celcius and best of all the wind has died down. The fire itself is still burning out of control and so far almost 2500 hectares/over 5000 acres have been burnt along with 116 homes. With the good weather they are able to stop it getting to homes, but because the bush is so dense in those parts, they are allowing it to burn itself near these properties so there will not be as much threat when the weather heats up again. People have been allowed home.. At least those that still have a home.. There are many fundraising activities going on to help these poor people and many have offered to take into their homes, people they do not even know and have offered free land to keep their animals that now have no food or shelter. It is at times like this that the true nature of people shines through.. for there are those that have been caught sneaking through the bush to steel what little belongings may have been left!!! Where there is good.. there is always bad.. Or is it?.. where there is bad... there is always good. (-:

The fires are still burning, but because the weather has been so mild and we even had rain, the situation has eased greatly. The roads are back open. We went for a drive to the coast to see the devastation. It is horrific to see houses burnt to the ground. What was more amazing is how indiscriminate the fire was at burning one house whilst leaving the home right next door, in tact. It was a very eerie feeling and the town of Wye was all but deserted.. but the locals are wanting people to come back, for without the tourists, the town.. what's left of it, will not survive.

Breezey, I would think that the wildfires there are a regular occurrence there, just as they are in our western states, where the weather conditions are similar. Of course, an ongoing drought tends to make the conditions even more ripe for fires, both in OZ as well as in California.

Pretty much each year Breezey. There is the threat of fires during the Summer period. It is part of life. Just as is your being snowed in i guess.
Once again.. we had terrific rain last night. Places were flooded in Melbourne. All weather is wonderful. It all has it's good points and it's not so good.. The sheer unpredictability is what makes it so fascinating..
