Maybe even your state?
And do any draw your interest?

Not around my area, suburb of Adelaide,I think country wide,we don't have any where near as many as you do in the states,I'm guessing most of your abandoned buildings are left over from boom times, and farms no longer viable.

We have an abandoned pharmacy/store and various other buildings. The pharmacy has been empty many years. A few years ago, we had a mall...all kinds of stores in it and then... just all gone! After some time.. maybe a year or so, It was demolished and all that was left was a movie theater that had been attached. Now, they closed down the theater too.

By area, if you mean in my city, there are thousands of abandoned buildings. Houses, businesses, factories, schools, churches, stores...

Sometimes, I give a lot of thought to what could be done with buildings standing empty...

So many things.... set up space to collect used furniture and appliances... household needs... and give them away to people who are in need.
Start a home for people down on their luck... help them get a start and give them needed things from that storage.
A diner that works on the volunteer basis... people giving back to the place that helped them... and feeding others for free.
Indoor gardens for vegetables, fruits, etc...

Empty houses that aren't too bad off could become first homes for people. Or community homes.
