Could they be the common buckthorn, which are common in Wisconsin?

So, if that is so.. they are pretty useless to people for eating?

Apparently, but I'm not sure that I've identified your tree correctly. It was an educated guess based on your photos and info.

From what I understand, people actually BUY these trees for their yards. WHY? They serve no real purpose for people...do they?

If they are common buckthorns, they are an invasive species and should not be planted on purpose. They were originally planted as ornamentals before they realized that they could threaten native species.

Again, I am not at all sure that is what you have.

The person who tried to convince me you could buy them... I told her differently. lol
One thing we haven't mentioned, which I looked up, is that those trees have thorns...have to see if mine does. I don't remember seeing any.

I have never heard of a buckthorn. I looked it up and don't recognise them. Don't think we have them here.

I never heard of them before now either. lol
I checked and don't believe that is what my trees are. No thorns to be found on mine.

They are an unsolved mystery. Could you take a bit to your local nursery?

I just may have to call a nursery and ask if anyone would be able to help me. Someone else said "dogwood" is a lot like mine... going to check on that too.
It's just sad how many berries are on that tree and I don't see even birds really eating any.

Dogwoods don't have berries.

Maybe the birds know better?

I just meant if the birds aren't eating the berries, maybe there is a good reason for that. Maybe they are poisonous.

Breezey, if you use that tiller contraption on the rest of the yard, you probably won't have to mow it for the rest of the year.

Even in the short grass, you need to keep your eyes open. Snakes can look like twigs in the grass.. until you step on them!!! Haven't seen any here.. yet.

Thank goodness for that.. or we would have to keep both eyes open instead of just one for the snakes.
