Are you getting ready to plant flowers soon?

Post by Breezey Breezey on Mon Apr 12, 2010 8:29 am

Is it about time for you to plan your flower beds and plant some flowers?

I would have a heart attack if I couldn't plant any flowers at all. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I love picking what I like and figuring out where to put them.
Ron, ask the gardener to let you do that for him. lol

We have several gardeners as we are on 38 acres but I have places I can pick my favorite, Red Gingers, and I was sneaky and planted some too. I do have this very cool aloe vera plant, then I will plant in a bucket, Jacks seeds, and Naoko wants some herbs so I just need to go get some dirt.

Although Autumn is knocking on the door Ive just got back from the garden centre. They have a stunning stock of Winter Violas in flower carpeting the floor of one of their greenhouses. I couldn't resist. Ive just rejuvinated the front with them. A hanging basket, and three large decorative flower pots, with some smelly lavender for them to shelter under.

I bet I know someone else who cant wait to get cracking on their garden.

Winter violas... hmmmm thinking

Now, my tomatoes are just starting to ripen and my peppers are just starting to reach a bigger size. My melons are non existent since something eats them all...

I am NOT ready for colder weather.

Let's go.... fishing

Ive just got back from the garden centre again. I had a ponder and decided I wanted to see that "carpet" again. I need to do another 6 large hanging baskets. The guy there was pleased to see me and Ive come back with estate full of flowers. Only trouble is, his carpet now has a few holes.

These hanging baskets are over the frogs pond, and far too heavy to get down to plant. Ill just have to go up, so if you hear a splash.......... giggle

Do these grow even with snow?

Snow? Thats a rare one over here. It does sometimes though, a slight dusting will close airports, bring motorways to a halt and stop every train on the network.

The main problem is the frost. I wrap the vines and the palms which does the trick (so far). The snowdrops come out mid winter, just to cheer us up, they look a real picture in the countryside and woods.

Most of my weeds just go to sleep in the winter, at least I dont need to bother about cutting the grass, or maintaining the mower!

I can just hunker down(?) inside.

No. Honestly! If you can get snowdrops they're fine. Theyll peep up through or if the snows too deep theyll be there when it melts.

It seems I learn something new every day. I didn't think it rained over there let alone snowed. Someone told me all your water came from roo eggs buried in the garden, or was it cartesian wells, but thats a place in Somerset.
