Voters pick dead man for mayor over the incumbent

Voters in Tracy City, Tenn., have overwhelmingly elected a dead man as mayor, ousting the incumbent, the Chattanooga Times Free Press [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Carl Robin Geary Sr. died of a heart attack March 10, but still beat
incumbent Barbara Brock 268 to 85 on Tuesday, the newspaper reports.

"I knew he was deceased. I know that sounds stupid, but we wanted
someone other than her," Chris Rogers, owner of Lunch Box restaurant, tells
the paper. "If he were to run again next week I'd vote for him again."
The seat will now be declared vacant and four aldermen will select a new mayor.

Geary clearly had the momentum all along: someone propped up one of his
campaign signs among the floral arrangements at his funeral, the paper
says.

The defeated incumbent, who was appointed in 2008 when the
previous mayor had died, blamed "good old boys" who didn't like change
she had brought.
"Tell me something - why would people vote for a dead man?" Brock
tells the Free Press. "That was the only way they could get my job."

As for her own future: "I'll live -- I'm a survivor."(Posted by Doug Stanglin)

I find this funny, justice at it's best and smart thinking by a lot of people. lol
I would never have honestly considered voting for someone who had died! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hi,Tater,
You know, I thought about that too when I first read it...
(Too far to go for "funny" in something that ought to be serious)

In this case, it seems to me that what it says is:
1. The voters REALLY do not like her.
2. The city needs a new "system" - one that doesn't stick you
with either a dead canidate or a candidate you will not have.

(Bree and I talked about this a while back),
and - she and I think that "none of the above" should be a
choice on the initial ballot. ESPECIALLY! for primaries.
If "none of the above is the winner - the parties have
x-amount of time to get candidates their constituents WILL have.
In this case the city hadn't anything in place but to offer the
deceased as a viable candidate.
So... (you will notice the city does have something in place
for this situation...)
"Aldermen" will appoint someone to the office.
(Isn't that -more or less - how they got Ms. Brock?)

As to whether Ms. Brock is correct about WHY she wasn't re-elected...
I have NO IDEA.
I'm just kinda tired of having "Eeww-Yuck" and "Oh-hell!-no" as
my only choices.

It is a sad state of affairs when people actually vote for a dead person, pleaseeeeeeeeee, first, isn't that illegal, second, why would anyone actually vote unless there was a live candidate. I have never heard of such a thing.

(No, huh? "grown-ups" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] geez.) I have. (considered it, I mean.!)

And I promise you! if ever the choice is between Dubya and Deceased ?
Yeah.
I have also written in Willie Nelson and Pat Paulson at various times
for various offices and elections. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Sometimes - Mickey Mouse is a better choice that what's offered.
Those are - usually- the elections where it makes no difference
WHO gets the job - it will be a disaster -IMO.
If it might -even possibly- make a difference - then I don't "split"
the vote. Ever.
I really wanted to write in Hillary Clinton this last election.
Not because I didn't like Obama but because of the lousy way
'The Party' chose to give him the nomination. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I like Obama fine; I like Hillary better. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I thought that little stunt was lousy.
BUT... ! If there was the slightest chance! that splitting even
one! vote away the candidate might have elected *shudder*
Sarah Palin ?[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] NOOO WAY.
~ HILLARY IN 2012! ~ [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Turns out I needn't have been concerned.
However, here, in beautiful downtown "[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" , frequently there
is no one opposing the incumbent. No one. Blank opposition.
THEN - there's nothing to lose, and an opportunity to make a
tiny "statement" is at hand.
Unless, of course, more people write in "Willie Nelson" than
vote for the incubent. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
(I wonder if Willie wants to be our next County Attorney?)

Anyway, somehow, in this case... I love it. };>

Ron,
No? It is an equally sad state of affairs when a party
shoves a candidate down the voters' throats.
I don't believe it could have been "news" to her party that Ms. Brock
was not popular.
It is the responsiblity of everyone to cover "contingenices."
In this case "the contingency" is NOT Ms. Brock. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Talking about ole Sarah, she has made over 6 million since she left office as being a governor she only made around 125,000 a year and between her book and her speaking , and her reality show, she'll make even more. I cvan't stand that woman, she who slaughters wolves from a helicopter, she is a damned killer, a war monger, she takes too camoflauge like a duck in water, she constantly runs down Obama, like her and Mccain could have done better. Yeah right. Mickey Mouse would have been a bettter candidate and Goofy instead of those 2 jerks.I like Hillary too Ja'aj and wanted to see her win, but she at least is in top government where she belongs. I think she is awesome, but I like Obama too.

Ron,
I agree! Absolutely!
(Except she's up to TWELVE MILLION +! now. and counting!)
The woman is a MORON. All "caps". And she's offensive -
in soooo many ways! I have never even heard! of her until
John McCain (okay - the GOP) pulled her out of a hat.
I thought at first: "smart move, and she's very pretty!"
And then... OMG! she started to talk!
(I honestly think Mc Cain was as appalled as anyone.)
AND - she hasn't SHUT! UP! since. Man! I like John; I've known
his wife a long time - and -FOR A REPUBLICAN- he's okay.
I ADORED! Barry Goldwater! Yes, I did. I spite! of his Party - [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
(my Mom was a staunch! Republican...)
I like to think she's paying attention. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Barry was straight-up ! Always.
Them days is OVER for a long while, I think.
(Remember when you could vote for the CANDIADATE and
not just the Party?) Darn.

As for Sarah...
I'd like to be able to have her turn in her card as a female!
Bah.

You are so right about her Ja'aj, pull her woman card, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee, then I can slap her, lol. I have a lot of repet for Mccain being in Nam, a pow, leting his men leave while he stayed and took all that torture, or did he??? He might have paid them off and had a good ole time, we will never know what went on over there. But he was a war hero and I give him credit for that, but I hate war and that is his only way of resolving conflict, war, not peace. I was brought up a staunch Democrat and still am, but things are so different now.

Ron,
Funny!It mde me think of an old "G.I." saying;
"See the Chaplain and have your ticket punched."
THAT! could work... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
John Mc Cain WAS and IS VERFIABLY (and verified!)
a WAR HERO. Not a question in ANYONE'S mind about that.
(Those with! minds...)
And I love him for thinking -
(and acting on it!- every chance he gets.) what I think:
We STILL ! have guys IN 'NAM. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I reeeeeally don't like that - (or "them" - as in "those people".)
McCain blocked The Shrub at every turn he possibly could -
I thought he - and ALL of us! - would actually have a stroke
and/or KILL that jackass! when he was babbling about a
"clarification" for the Geneva Convention! Dear God.
(Evil little man. Evil.) And stupid. I was sooo proud! of McCain.
It takes a lot of guts to defy your President - especially! if it's
the same party. And when you are looking him in the eye.
McCain was against the war.
(Wasn't everyone, except our lttle tin god?)
BUT now, - since "here we are" ... I think we can't just "walk" .
That would mean, for one thing, that ALL! those men and women
died for nothing. I can't tolerate that one.
"OUT" slowly, steadily, and leaving in place what we've tired to build -YES!

Ron,
I was just thinking..
Maybe Palin will take her $$ - and, like the "true patriot" that she is,
move! somewhere else ! The Caymans, maybe? and get the hell out!

Spotlight-junkie that she is, I doubt it - but it's such a HAPPY thought.
