Stay Off-Topic Thread

Post by JackRabbit on Sun Feb 21, 2010 10:35 pm

First topic message reminder :

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Someone starts a thread and before you know it, the subject takes a nose-dive, completely off-course. Then it turns into a conversation between two or more members about something else entirely. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to respond here with an entirely different subject. You can talk about your cucumber garden, your pet hyena, the weather, what's on TV, likes-dislikes, etc. Better yet, have a conversation with one or more of the other members about things you want to talk about which have nothing to do with the original post. You can rest assured that it will be read. Remember, the one who changes the subject the furthest WINS.
... Ready? ... Set? ... Go! ...

(This is "Stay Off Topic 2.0")

Sadly, I'm not kidding, and yet most conservatives don't think we should raise the minimum wage, as they like to pretend that it only affects mostly teenagers working part time and entry level workers.

Housing prices can range from under $100,000 to well over a million, depending on location, size and condition; I would guess that the average is probably well over 200,000.

I would estimate that on average, people spend at least $50 per person per week. Obviously, bargain hunters who use coupons and are savvy shoppers spend less, but if you're not looking for the best prices and buy a lot of convenience foods, you can easily spend double or more than that.

Okay, so... a gallon of milk would be over $3? Is the whole or skim or something else?

A liter of gas is a dollar? Does that mean three of those is our gallon again? lol
Would you believe we pay less than $2 for a gallon of milk?
So...  pay is better for work maybe due to higher cost of living where you are?
Correction... we pay less than $2 for a gallon of gas... I believe it was $1.69 last night.

Yeah, but it hasn't always been that cheap; less than 2 years ago, it was closer to $4.00 per gallon. It's a lot less right now because of the glut on the global market, due in part to increased U.S. production.

I know their dollar isn't worth quite as much as ours ; the last I checked, I think our dollar was worth about 1.20 Australian dollars, but it would be interesting to compare prices of food, clothing and shelter. Lorry, a little help?

Our dollar is worth 71 US cents...
Price of food.. Milk $3 for 3 litres.. Bread 85cents a loaf for white bread... Bag of 5 kg potatoes $2.50
Meat too bloody dear... Vegies very reasonable.. Housing depends on where you buy. The country is much cheaper to buy a house and land than the big cities where prices are high. For example.. where we live, you can buy a 3 bedroom house in good condition for approx $150,000... A 4 bedroom brand new house approx $300,000. While if you buy a house just out of the town it would cost you for an older style but in good condition, house on a couple of acres approx $340,000. What are your housing prices over there?

Hmmm.. I have seen houses at all prices here... I think it depends on what a person wants and is willing to pay.
I want simple, not new... even maybe needing a few repairs.... $50,000- $70,000

I think one thing we need to consider is the amount of land with a house. The more land, the higher the price.

That would all depend if there was a banana tree growing in the back yard Tater. How much land does a house have, that is for sale at $50 - $70,000 Breezey?

I think... usually less than an acre. Again..it also depends on where a place is. Some go cheaper with more land because they are in areas not so "wanted".

Well, a kilo is 2.2 pounds so, lets see, carry the 1, divide by the denominator...

the regular price here is around 59 cents per pound, which would be roughly $1.30 per kilo.

But most of your produce prices are considerably less than ours.

Oh, by the way, a pound of bananas weigh about the same as a pound of feathers; it's just the volume of the two items that are a lot different. Chances are, you can't fit a pound of feathers in the palm of your hand, unless you're King Kong.
